ABSENCE AND PHOTOGRAPHY

From the Latin absentia, derived from absens, the participle of abesse — a compound of esse (to be) and the prefix ab (away from). The word “essence” shares the same root. Absence — essence.
The music of absence, even in presence.
The soul of things.
Silence.

It proposes an incomplete “reality,” one that yields space to the viewer, inviting them to become interpreter and participant. It seeks identification through nostalgia or longing; as Hersson Piratoba wrote, “generating memories even without having lived them.”
